Adam

"She knows she's welcome to stay as long as she needs to, right? You drove that point home last night?"

I couldn't help it, the teenage soul that still hides in all of us came out right then as I was talking to Scott.

I grinned and said, "That's not the only point that got driven home last night. Right, sorry. Yes, I told her."

Scott just rolled his eyes at me, and said, "Damn. Why didn't I think to take care of her and let you make sure all of the animals got back here all right after the rodeo?"

"Because you're the responsible one. You know the hands take care of all of that. You should have joined us."

"If I'd known she was going to attack you, I would have. I figured after the ordeal last night that sex was the last thing she'd want. And I wanted to make sure we didn't have a repeat of the last rodeo."

"It was Duke's first try running things that time. Shit happens. You can bet though that he won't ever leave a stallion behind again, not after you docked his pay like that. Anyway, back to Grace. I think she just needed to forget about everything, you know?"

"I would imagine so. I still can't believe her dad's reaction."

"He practically disowned me." Grace's voice was sad as she made her presence known in the kitchen, where Scott and I were sipping coffee before we headed out to deal with ranch duties.

"He was just angry, and shocked," Scott said. "He'll come to his senses."

I nodded at her, adding, "Did you sleep at all last night? You were so restless."

She looked like hell as she stood just inside our kitchen, my old t-shirt hanging down almost to her knees. Her face looked so lost and forlorn, I wanted to take her hand, lead her back to her bed, and love her until her father's opinion no longer mattered.

Hell, I felt my cock stirring just at the thought. Maybe Scott could join us, and the two of us could make her forget all of her troubles. We could keep her here forever, away from anyone who would judge. Away from anyone who could hurt her.

"I slept, some. Having you there helped. Thanks for letting me stay here last night. I'm not sure where I would have gone if you guys hadn't offered."

"It was my pleasure," I grinned at her. I couldn't help it, flashes of her underneath me last night kept flashing through my mind, even as I tried to be supportive.

She grinned back at me, shyly, and with a sexy shade of pink starting to grace her face. It seemed to wash away the tightness there, just for a second, as memories of last night obviously started running through her mind as well.

Her eyes shot to Scott, gauging his reaction.

"I'm glad Adam was there for you. I only wish I had been, too. Or instead. Either way."
